You had me at hazelnut…
I’m serious though. Anything with hazelnut in it, I’m there. Coffee, chocolate, nut butters. Give me all the hazelnut. Want to know one of my most favourite hazelnut creations? Nutella. Any other Nutella lover out there? I’m sure there are because it is phenomenal!
But you know what’s not so phenomenal? The ingredients. Unfortunately it’s full of refined sugar and palm oil, and other not so gut friendly ingredients. That doesn’t stop me from pausing for a moment at the supermarket, with the thought.. “Should I get it?” Because it tastes sooo damn good! And #YOLO right? Well for me, honestly I think I would eat the whole jar in two days… so not my ideal situation.
Finally, the other day I had a genius idea. Why not make my own?! I’m actually shocked with myself that I didn’t think of it sooner. I mean I stare it down in the grocery store almost EVERY TIME I’m there.
So, I made my own, and I’m happy to report, it’s the real deal. Just what I needed! Now you can fulfill all your Nutella cravings without the guilt of putting questionable ingredients into your body!
Are you ready for it? Here we go!
- 2 cups hazelnuts
- ½ cup almonds
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp maple syrup(add more if you want it sweeter)
- Pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350. Place the hazelnuts and almonds on a baking tray, I put parchment paper underneath. Bake them for 7 minutes. Allow the nuts to cool. Put all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
Put it on your toast, muffins, pancakes, in your yogurt bowls, and anything else you can think of! If you think of something good, let me know, because I’ll say it, HAZELNUT flavour is life. Ok, hope you enjoy!
P.S I have another hazelnut recipe here, for those of you who can’t resist 😉
